How long has your company been around?

In 1967 our founder, Don Caldwell, founded the prepaid legal industry. We have been providing outstanding legal coverage to our members ever since.

How does the plan work?

We have established a Legal Service Office (LSO) in each state. This attorney firm is your first point of contact when you need legal assistance and handles all of your free services. Your LSO will either assist you directly with your matter or refer you to an attorney in your area, depending on the type of legal matter you have. Our referral attorneys will charge you significantly reduced rates.

Who is covered under my plan?

The Personal Legal Defender® plan covers you, your spouse, and any of your dependents up to the age of 19. Your dependents may also receive coverage up to the age of 23 if they are full-time students. With the Business Protector® plan, you and another named individual associated with your small business may consult with our attorneys about business matters. With our Group Legal Defender, you can protect your employees and your bottom line.

How do I enroll in the plan?

You can enroll in Caldwell Legal by phone, over the Internet, or through the mail. If you would like to enroll by phone, please contact our Customer Service department at 800-222-3035. How soon can I use my plan after enrolling?

You may use your plan as soon as we process your first payment.

Will I have to pay a higher membership fee if I use the plan more often?

No. One of the great benefits of our legal service plan is that you have unlimited access to your legal service attorney. While some of the services that our attorneys provide come with additional fees, you will pay those directly to your attorney and not to Caldwell Legal. We will not raise your rates because you are using our services more frequently than others.

What if I am not happy with the plan?

Caldwell Legal prides itself on customer service. We encourage our members to contact us with any complaints or concerns, and we will do our best to resolve any problems or issues you have. If for any reason you are still unsatisfied, we offer a 30-day money back guarantee (excluding our $10 enrollment fee).

I need services in a different state; does my membership cover this?

We have a network of attorneys in almost every state in the US. Your plan covers you nationwide.

What if I don't like the Referral Attorney you give me?

Most of the law firms to which we refer our members have more than one attorney. You may request a change of attorney by contacting our Customer Service department. We will also give you more than one referral attorney in your area that specializes in your area of law, if necessary.

What if my attorney isn't returning my calls?

We ask all our attorneys to return calls within two business days. While you will usually receive a return call sooner, most attorneys are very busy and many are frequently in and out of court. If an attorney has not returned your call within a reasonable time, or if you have a legal matter which is time sensitive, please call our Customer Service department and we can expedite your call.

Do you have attorneys that speak languages other than English?

Yes, in most cases our attorneys are staffed to handle your language needs.

I have an attorney that I use already. How do I find out if he/she is on your list?

You may call our Customer Service department and a representative will check to see if your attorney is already listed with us. If not, we will be happy to contact your attorney to see if they would be interested in joining our attorney network.
