Don Caldwell, of Caldwell Legal, U.S.A., founded the prepaid legal service industry in 1967. Mr. Caldwell was a successful Insurance Broker who saw the great need for affordable legal services. One day it came to him that just as all people may need insurance during their lives, so might they need legal services, and those services could be funded in much the same way as insurance. He saw that the risk for legal service could be “pooled,” just as it is for other types of risk. For several years, he waged an uphill battle. He went state by state, lobbying state bars and state legislatures, testifying in favor of enabling legislation, telling everyone who would listen about his innovative idea. The results of his efforts have been spectacular. Today, millions of Americans have access to affordable legal services.

Mr. Caldwell began his dream in 1965 and by 1967, he had formed Daalco, the very first prepaid legal corporation in the United States. He also formed Unimark-Caldwell in Texas in 1973.

We are proud to say that our fine lawyers offer caring and expert service, as witnessed by our group retention rate of 77%. We currently maintain a ratio of one attorney to every twenty plan members.
